Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong’o celebrated a Kenyan girl who bagged a prestigious award.
The governor lauded the 10-year-old Aileen Akinyi from Kisumu for winning an award in Nigeria. She won the Apostle Hayford Alile Humanitarian Award of the Community Engagement and Human Rights (CAHR) Africa Awards.
He described her as the current little miss world model revealing that she had also been feted in South Africa.
“Congratulations Princess Aileen Akinyi (Little Miss World), aged 10 from Kisumu, on winning. Aileen also won the Christian Women Entrepreneurs Network Award held in South Africa in recognition of her service to humanity,” he stated.
Nyong’o stated that Akinyi had received mass support in the country prior to her victory. He also had been campaigning for her pleading with Kenyans to vote her in to bring the award home.
“This follows a rigorous nomination and voting process on various media platforms, supported by recommendations from government agencies, civil society organizations and other critical stakeholders,” he stated.
On Saturday, November 26, Akinyi announced that she had been declared the winner of the humanitarian award.
“I am now the official holder and the youngest awardee of the Apostle Hayford Alile Humanitarian award,” she announced.
She also revealed that she was planning for an event for the elderly in December as a way of appreciating them during the Christmas season.
The girl has also been nominated for the Humanitarian award for her acts of kindness just like 25-year-old Purity Gakuo, who was announced the winner of the Global Young Entrepreneur of the Year and the Business for Good awards in a ceremony held in Hague, the Netherlands
CAHR Africa Awards, an initiative of CSR- in – Action Advocacy seeks to recognize and appreciate individuals and companies whose performance in the areas of community engagement and human rights have been outstanding.
Akinyi joined modeling at the age of three. She was motivated by the poor state of affairs in the informal settlements.
She received support from her mother before finding her way to the red carpet collecting awards and making a name for herself.
The the 10-year-old girl is described as; Little Miss Humanity, Little Miss Kit Mikay, Mini Miss World Kenya, Tiny Princess Kenya, Little Miss Mazingira Africa, Tiny Miss Kisumu and African Child of the Year.
