Detectives in Kiambu County launched investigations into the mysterious death of a female police officer at Kiandutu Police Station in Thika West Sub-County.
According to an occurrence book report seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the cop shot herself in the chest on November 25 at 9:45 am.
A colleague officer who reported the matter was alarmed after hearing a loud bang from the deceased’s house.
He, in turn, informed the Officer in Charge of the Station (OCS), who rushed to the scene in the company of other officers.
“The officer died on the spot. The rifle with 19 rounds was recovered for further administrative action,” part of the report read.
Upon arriving at the scene, the officers found the lady lying on the floor with a Steyr Rifle beside her.
The report indicated that the gun with serial number S.NO.3177205 was issued to the deceased as she prepared to proceed to a patrol mission with her colleagues.
According to the report, her death came as a surprise to her colleagues as she had not shown any signs of stress in the moments preceding the act.
However, her colleagues noted that she had posted a cryptic message on her Whatsapp status on the night of November 24.
The report indicated that she posted a text reading “because tomorrow may never be mine” and backed it up with the song “Sweet bye-bye”.
Her body was taken to Kenyatta University Funeral as relevant authorities continued investigating the matter.
The Friday, November 25 incident was added to the list of alarming cases of suicide among police officers in the country.
In response to the alarming trajectory, the government, under the leadership of President William Ruto, promised to expedite the process of reviewing the terms of service for police officers.
