  • The main suspect behind the murder of Keagan Githua posed as a matatu stage attendant in various parts of the city.

According to a report released by the office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Saturday, November 19, the suspect moved on different matatu terminals while identifying targets.

He would then hire a boda boda rider to ferry him to pounce on the unsuspecting victims.

The suspect used the same scheme to target the 24-year-old who was stabbed to death in October in Ridgeways estate, Kiambu county.

“He was arrested last evening (on Friday, November 18) at the busy Githurai matatu terminus, where he hung around and operated as a matatu stage attendant, preying on unsuspecting members of the public,” a statement released by DCI read.

The revelation came after the suspect was arrested and led the detectives to a house where a murder weapon and the deceased phone were recovered.

He also led the detectives to another house where they apprehended a boda boda rider who ferried him to Ridgeways.

” The arrest of the duo comes after detectives completed investigations into the macabre killing of the 24-year-old on October 30, 2022,” DCI added.

Their arrest of the main suspect and the recovery of the murder weapon followed the arrest of four individuals following an operation carried out in Nairobi Central District (CBD) on Tuesday, November 15.

One suspect who was arrested while hiding at a city hospital led the detectives to arrest three others who were linked to the murder of Githua.

“They pounced on the first suspect before heading to Githurai, where the rest were arrested, and the deceased’s smartphone was recovered.

“This is after a detailed analysis of the gang’s modus operandi, which was conducted by sleuths based at the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, who have since established that it operates from Githurai,” the police stated.

The arrest followed a crackdown that was announced by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, targeting gangs in Nairobi.
