A police constable mysteriously drowned in a pit latrine on Wednesday, November 16, at a rental house in Suba in Homa Bay.
Kennedy Oyoo met his untimely death at around 11 pm after returning to his residence from work.
The 47-year-old police constable attached to Nyatoto Police Station allegedly slipped and incurred head injuries while falling into the water-filled latrine.
His body was discovered inside the pit on the following day, Thursday, November 17.
According to eyewitness accounts, Oyoo had gone to answer the call of nature.
Preliminary reports indicated that the pit latrine was not covered when the incident occurred.
Suba sub-county police commander, Caxton Ndunda, disclosed that the pit was 12 feet and half.
It was also full of water following the heavy rains pounding the area.
According to the police commander, Oyoo could not call for help owing to the injuries incurred on the head.
Following the incident, Dunda advised residents from the region to cover their pit latrines to prevent more deaths and injuries.
The officer’s body was moved to Rachuonyo South sub-county hospital in Oyugis town for postmortem.
