74 Patients in ICU as Covid-19 Cases Rise

  • A total of 337 people tested positive for Covid-19 out of a sample size of 2,924 tested in the last 24 hours.

    According to a statement signed by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Monday, March 8, the total confirmed positive cases are now 109,164.

    Unfortunately, three patients succumbed to the disease pushing total cumulative fatalities to 1,879. The Ministry of Health Conveyed its sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones to the disease.

    The cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,336,614. Of the new reported cases, 311 are Kenyans while 26 are foreigners. 198 are males and 139 are females.

    The youngest is a one-month-old baby, while the oldest is 85 years.

    53 patients have recovered from the disease, 21 from various health facilities, while 32 are from the Home-Based and Isolation Care. Total recoveries now stand at 87,623.

    A total of 532 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,498 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

    74 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 23 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 40 on supplemental oxygen. A total of 11 patients are on observation.

    Another 23 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen all of whom are in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

    In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 267, Kiambu 27, Kajiado 6, Mombasa 5, Nyeri 5, Laikipia 4, Nakuru 4, Machakos 4, Kisii 2, Vihiga 2, Uasin Gishu 2, Makueni 2, Meru 1, Murang’a 1, Siaya 1, Kisumu 1, Garissa 1, Kilifi 1 and Isiolo 1.

    In terms of Sub County distribution; the 267 cases in Nairobi are from Kibra 28, Lang’ata 27, Dagoretti North 22, Embakasi East 19, Embakasi West 18, Makadara and Westlands 17 cases each.

    Embakasi Central and Kamukunji 15 cases each, Embakasi South 14, Kasarani and Roysambu 13 cases each, Embakasi North and Starehe 11 cases each, Dagoretti South 10, Ruaraka 9 and Mathare 8 cases.
