Mugo was trounced by a 28-Year-Old lawyer, Jane Njeri Maina, in the party primaries. Njeri will now fly the UDA flag in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking to the press on Friday, April 15, Njeri thanked the party for supporting her and acknowledged that the race was competitive but it was time to unite the county and work for the good of the people.
Njeri clinched the UDA ticket after flooring her competitors’ private investigator Jane Mugo and first Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker, Ann Wangeshi, in the tightly contested race.
Elsewhere, former Deputy President William Ruto’s Chief of Staff, Maryanne Keitany, trounced Aldai Member of Parliament, Cornelius Serem, in the nominations.
Keitany garnered 16,597 votes while Serem got 13,878 votes in the race for the UDA ticket.
Results continue to stream in a day after aspirants seeking the UDA ticket participated in the primaries.
Notable names such as MP Oscar Sudi clinched the UDA ticket after beating Pauline Tuwei, Jonathan Tuwei and David Koros.
Incumbent Mogotio MP, Daniel Tuitoek, clinched the ticket to defend his seat.
In Gichugu Constituency, Robert Gichimu Githinji clinched the UDA nomination ticket with 13,034 votes against Clement Munyua’s 5,853 votes and David Makanga’s 3,729.
In Ndia Constituency, incumbent MP George Kariuki won the Ndia constituency UDA nomination ticket with 12,112 votes. His political rival Muteti Murimi got 4,647 votes.
Baringo Central MP, Joshua Kandie, was declared the winner in the UDA parliamentary nominations in Baringo Central. He garnered 9,505 followed by David Kerich (6,834) and Sammy Mwaita (2,115).
Gilgil MP Martha Wangari won the UDA primaries after garnering 9,829 votes against her rival Stephen Gatimu who got 6,809 votes.
