10 Dead as 324 Test Positive for Covid-19

  • Kenya on Sunday, May 23, recorded 324 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours. The cases were reported from a sample size of 4,392.

    The positivity rate is now at 7.4 [recent while the total confirmed cases now stands at 168,432.

    Kiambu county registered the highest number of cases 84, followed by Nairobi and Homabay counties with 68 and 28 respectively. 

    Of the positive cases recorded on Thursday, 298 are Kenyans while 26 are foreigners. 223 are male and 101 are female. The youngest case is a one-year-old baby and the oldest is aged 91.

    At the same time, 85 patients have recovered from Covid-19. 53 from home-based care, and 32 from the various hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 114,537. 

    83,216 recoveries are from home-based care and isolation program, while 31,321 are from various health facilities.

    Regrettably, 10 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, two of them having occurred in the last 24 hours while eight are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the last month. Total fatalities now stand at 3,059. 

    Currently, there are 1,084 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,751 are on home-based isolation and care. 

    121 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 25 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 68 on supplemental oxygen. 28 patients are on observation.

    Another 86 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 79 of them in the general wards and seven in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

    As of today, a total of 953,954 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 countrywide. Of these 289,766 are aged 58 years and above, health workers 163,976, teachers 150,203, security officers 80,665 and others are 269,344.
