  • Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju found himself in an awkward situation where he was forced to read news criticizing President Uhuru Kenyatta on live TV.

Tuju, who worked as a news anchor at KTN in the 1990s before shifting to politics, relived his journalist days during NTV‘s AM Live segment hosted by Debarl Inea.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta’s social media account are full of angry reactions from citizens who have turned the president into a punching bag on which to release their bile…” he read the prompter maintaining his composure despite the content of the script.

The report sampled some reactions from Kenyans around the country on their views of Uhuru’s regime.

After reading the report, Tuju jokingly admitted that there was a time when reading that kind of news would have cost him his job.

“That is a tribute to freedom of the media and how robust we are. There is some years ago, if that happened I’d be out of a job,” he conveyed.

He further pointed a finger at Debarl for setting him up (all in good fun).

“They took advantage and made sure there was enough critic of the government before I read the report,” Tuju added.

One of the panellists later commended Tuju for his ability to read the news despite the obvious criticism on his boss, the president.
