  • Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi believes Deputy President William Ruto shall become Kenya’s president but at least after the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga‘s tenure at State House.

In his segment on Sunday, Ngunyi shed light on the two leaders’ ability to lead the country noting that it was not easy for an individual to win in a presidential poll in Kenya especially on their first attempt.

Ngunyi points to the fact that Raila and Ruto’s understanding of power is paralleled by the fact that the former has a better understanding of the craft of power.

“Why Raila is looking better than Ruto is because he understands the craft of power. This is why he went underground. Ruto does not understand the craft of power,” dissected Ngunyi.

He argues that the political landscape requires that one understands that there is time for playing politics and time for exercising leadership.

“No one has ever become president in Kenya because he tried to become president for the first time. Never. Uhuru tried once, gave up the second time for Kibaki and then tried a third time and this is how he became president,” stated the analyst.

He went on to recall that Raila had contested for the top seat four times and “will run for the fifth time in 2022. This man is still trying.”

The commentator posits that he is not sure if the Deputy President will rewrite history to become the first politician ascending to power on a first jab at the Presidency.

“Willliam Ruto will become president in my view, but if Raila becomes president instead, it is because Ruto did not read the rhythms of time,” concluded the analyst in his Fifth Estate segment this week.
