  • A security aide purportedly attached to Ainamoi Member of Parliament Benjamin Kipkirui Langat invaded a live match threatening a footballer with his gun.

Citizen TV sports anchor Mike Okinyi identified the man who caused a security scare at Kericho Green Stadium as an Administration Police (AP) officer by the name Wycliffe alias Wicky.

Witnesses indicated that during the match between Zoo Kericho and Bandari FC, the officer invaded the pitch to protest a referee’s decision.

During the ensuing confrontation, Wycliffe reached out for his gun threatening to shoot one of the Bandari FC players.

He was, however, restrained from drawing the gun by the match officials, held still and whisked out of the pitch in the game that ended in a 1-1 draw.

The incident has seen angry netizens take to social media demanding an action from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Unconfirmed reports, however, indicate that the matter has been taken up by the office of the Inspector General of Police Joseph Kipchirchir Boinnet.

A nearly similar incident was witnessed in April 2018 at Kasuku Center Mall in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

A video surfaced showing a police officer threatening to shoot a taxi driver working with the Little Ride taxi company after mistakenly using the exit to access the mall alongside his female client.

This angered the officer who took issue with him while some sources claimed that the driver was later on booked in at Kileleshwa Police Station after the scuffle.
