  • A hotel owner in Nairobi’s Westlands area broke into tears following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive asking that restaurants in counties of  Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu, and Nakuru, only offer take away services.

In a video published on social media, Roy Wachira, the proprietor of Cafe Kaya along Waiyaki Way, said that he was overwhelmed with sadness given that the restaurant had just celebrated two years and had to close yet again.

“It’s taking a toll on me and I’m just tired of feeling what I’m feeling and not being able to say it…These are livelihoods and I understand where all this is coming from but it hurts to see all this happen overnight,” the entrepreneur stated.

Wachira represents many other entrepreneurs who’ve borne the brunt of the directive, which was put in place to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the five counties.

The president also banned the sale of alcohol in the five counties and increased curfew time from 10pm to 8pm.

Former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars goalkeeping coach Mathews Ottamax also expressed disappointment following the president’s decision to ban sports activities.

“It’s very unfortunate, nothing to smile about, apart from my football coaching role, I have a part-time job at an entertainment club, all these have been suspended indefinitely.

“I have bills to pay, many mouths to feed and my only qualifications are zoned on the above two,†he told Citizen Digital.

Ottamax acknowledged the existence of the virus but lamented that the measures would cause depression to athletes.

“We can do better than this, we can still have sports but under strict guidelines, this is enough,” he stated.

So far, the Country has recorded 131,116 cases. Of this, 92,161 have recovered while 2,135 have succumbed.
