Former President Uhuru Kenyatta spend two nights at the Little Gem Resort in Dudi, Siaya County, when he travelled to the lakeside county for the burial of former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.
Uhuru arrived at the resort on Friday, February 10, a day before the burial of the former CS on Saturday, February 11.
During his two-day stay, Uhuru was the only guest at the resort as they had paused bookings.
The resort’s owner and director Frank Otieno told Nation that the former Head of State spent his time in a two-bedroom unit that had a kitchenette, a living room and a bathroom.
“This is where the President slept. It is a two-bedroom suit. It has a living area and a small kitchen where the foodstuff was being prepared from,” the official stated.
Otieno added that Uhuru ate food prepared at the resort as they often prepared his meals from his room’s kitchenette.
Uhuru took Ugali, fish, chips Samosa and grilled chicken prepared by the resort’s staff as well as the former Head of State’s personal chefs that were part of his entourage.
The former President also had the Nederburg Cabernet Sauvignon wine from South Africa.
After the burial and rallies on February 11, Uhuru returned to the hotel and was joined the following morning – Sunday, February 12 – by Siaya Governor James Orengo before returning to Nairobi.Ā
Little Gem Resort is located in Dudi, a 10-minute drive from Yala where Magoha was buried.
The resort is located by the roadside along the Busia – Kisumu Highway which is mostly used by transit trucks transporting goods to Uganda.
Otieno revealed that the resort has 40 housing units with the highest charged room going for Ksh25,000.
The hotel has a swimming pool and open area space that allows guests arriving in choppers to land at the hotel.
