  • An autopsy on Tuesday, December 8, revealed that two suspects who died at Wanguru police station in Kirinyaga County were either tortured to death or suffocated due to congestion.

This disputed the earlier reports which indicated that the two suspects; Martin Musyoka and John Njeru, had succumbed to Covid-19.

Chief pathologist Johansen Oduor noted that the bodies of the two suspects had injuries.

He stated that two more samples had been extracted to further ascertain the cause of death.

“Once the results of this analysis are released plus what we have found out after the postmortem then we will be able to determine the actual cause of death,†Oduor stated.

Both suspects had been arrested on November 27 and taken to Wanguru police station. However, the family members of the suspects were notified that the remandees exhibited Covid-19 symptoms and had been rushed to Kimbimbi Hospital.

Soon after, the family members received news that the bodies were at the morgue. Both bodies had been classified as unknown African Males.

Speaking to a local media house on Tuesday, December 8, Njeru’s Mother Loise Wawira demanded justice for her son.

One of Musyoka’s widows, Jennifer Njeri also sought to know what happened to her husband at the police station as she questioned why reports had earlier indicated that her husband died of Covid-19.

The deaths of the two suspects had recently caused an uproar among residents who demanded justice for the two remandees.

This prompted the transfer of Francis Bundi, OCS at Wanguru Police Station and his deputy as investigations were pending.
