Raphael Munavu: UoN Professor Ruto Trusted With CBC Review

  • President Willam Ruto appointed Raphael Munavu as the chairperson for the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) task force.

    Other members comprise several varsity heads including the University of Nairobi (UoN) Vice-Chancellor Gitahi Kiama and his counterpart from Kenyatta University Paul Wainaina and award-winning teacher, Peter Tabichi. 

    Munavu, a don at UoN, has vast knowledge in Organic, Environmental, and Industrial Chemistry.

    His career spans 46 years since he started his teaching career at UoN in 1976.

    “A professor with a demonstrated history of working in the university sector at deputy and vice-chancellor levels. Skilled in lecturing, academic writing, science, education, governance, and university teaching,” Munavu described himself.

    The former Moi University VC has published over 60 refereed and commissioned papers. He has also been an external examiner in Chemistry in international universities like the University of Malawi, the University of Zimbabwe, and the University of Dar-Es-Salaam. 

    Notably, his research focuses on the discovery and development of appropriate and innovative chemical processes to convert locally available resources into useful products. 

    Munavu also served as the deputy vice-chancellor (administrative and finance) at Egerton University and the University of Nairobi.

    The professor holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Kalamazoo College in Michigan USA, from 1967 to 1970.

    From Wayne State University Detroit Michigan, he holds a master’s degree, 1970 PhD. 1972 and a PhD from the University of Detroit from 1972 to 1975.

    Munavu also chairs the Kenya National Academy of Sciences (KNAS) and the council of South Eastern University College (SEUCO).

    “Over six years of experience in national governance focused on resource allocations and principles of devolution,” he added.
