STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL YOUTH LEADERS CAUCUS ON THE RECKLESS UTTERANCES BEATING THE DRUMS OF WAR

The National Youth Leaders Caucus, an association that convenes young leaders from distinct political parties, different regions of Kenya and various religious and denominational groups is gathered here this morning to address weighty matters regarding peace, love and unity of this blessed Republic.

From the onset, we would like to state that we, the youth leaders are troubled about the future of Kenya. We are troubled about the heightened state of political tension in the country. We are troubled about the rising cases of hate speech ā€”ethnic profiling & disrespect of our women. We are troubled about the irresponsible remarks against the institution of the President as a symbol of national unity.

Recently, the country has witnessed sections of politicians, driven by personal vendetta & raw greed for power, hurling insults at H. E the President, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and the Mother of the Nation, the First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta. What a disgrace! The utterances by Hon. Johanah Ngā€™eno , Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikiir and Hon. Oscar Sudi, Member of Parliament for Kapseret Constituency were unfortunate and distasteful. We would like to join the rest of the country in condemning these two MPs. Calling them dishonorable is an under-statement.

It is unfortunate that while the President is focused on reinstating Kenya to normalcy following the adverse effects of Covid-19, ā€œthe Oscar Sudi ā€” Johana Ngā€™enoā€ axis has abandoned its legislative duties & is now focused on abusing our mothers.

It is utter indignity on Oscar Sudi & Johana Ngā€™eno ā€” for setting a bad example for the young generation. What then do we tell ā€” the young ones about politics, if all they see on Television are insults to our mothers and the President of the Republic?

To that extent, we would like to state the following:
1. Chapter Nine Subsection one of the Constitution of Kenya states that the President is solitary the Head of State and Government. The chapter further instills the symbol of national unity as a function of the President and that should be duly respected.

2. We call upon the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to invoke Article 75 (1) (c) of the Constitution 2010 and initiate their removal for ā€œdemeaning the Office of Member of Parliament,ā€ & bringing disrepute to the nation.

3. Integrity in leadership is a cardinal principle under Kenyan law. Therefore, we the young leaders ask the Kenyan public to take note of leaders who want to throw the country into civil war similar to that of 2007-08.
