  • A missing farmhand who was a key suspect in the murder of Kiambu businessman, George Mwangi, was arrested on Thursday night, November 4.

The suspect’s clothes and mobile phone were found in the victim’s home in Mang’u, Kiambu, which led to his arrest.

His last move before the death of the engineer and husband of Kiambu politician Gladys Chania, also raised suspicions. He reportedly disappeared from the farm two days before the engineer’s body was found in Kieni Forest.

The shamba man allegedly claimed that Chania sent him to deposit some money at a mobile money shop.

Police argued that it was the last time the suspect was seen as he used the main road to a nearby shop to vanish.

His close friends revealed that he was close to the businessman as he always attended to his personal errands.

“The last time that I saw him was when he was assigned an errand by Gladys Chania to deposit money at a mobile money shop.

“He went to the shop and never came back,” narrated one of his friends.

Police charged the farmhand with murder alongside the businessman’s widow, Gladys Chania and another employee. The trio denied all the charges levelled against them.

Chania, the main suspect in the case, will spend an additional 27 days in custody at the Langata Women’s Prison until her bail request case is mentioned on November 29.

Her co-accused were detained at the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.

Chania, who had earlier been released on a Ksh 1 million cash bail, skipped her husband’s funeral at their Mang’u house.

According to a postmortem result, the deceased was struck on his head numerous times before his body was dumped in Kieni Forest.
