KTN Anchor Frank Otieno Lands Managerial Job

  • KTN News anchor – Frank Otieno – has been promoted to a managerial position at Standard Media Group.

    Otieno, a seasoned journalist is the new Manager – Newspaper Education, a position he landed after passing the job interview. 

    Standard announced vacancies for the job dated Monday, May 17, 2021. 

    “I applied alongside other potential candidates and I thank God that I emerged the most suitable candidate. I feel that this is a position I am well suited for,” the education enthusiast told kenyagist.com on Saturday, July 17.

    Overall Duties 

    Otieno will report to General Manager – Sales & Distribution and be responsible for the overall management of the Newspapers in Education (NiE) program in schools and other institutions. 

    Other Job Responsibilities 

    Develop annual NiE growth plans and budgets.

    Oversee timely and efficient newspaper deliveries to participating schools and institutions.

    Collaborate effectively with these partners to develop and implement significant opportunities that strengthen the educational value chain.

    Conduct monitoring and evaluation of schools including managing recruitment, training, distribution, and overall relationship with schools.

    Liaise with the Ministry of Education (at both Head Office and County level) on relevant approvals and operational issues to ensure compliance.

    Career Path 

    Otieno has worked at the Standard bureau for nearly 14 years, rising from a reporter to Editor Kiswahili desk, his previous position before being appointed the NiE manager. 

    In between, he worked as a senior reporter and Bureau Chief in Kisumu County. His passion for education has evolved over the years and he is renowned for the show Dau la Elimu which made him stamp his name in the sector. 

    “Dau la Elimu has connected me well with education stakeholders in this country and I appreciate it. I retain the show even as I visit schools for NiE enrollment and expanding Standard Media Group readers and viewers. 

    “I also still welcome reporters from the tv desk to consult with me over their intended scripts, due to my passion for Kiswahili,†he added. 

    The Standard Media Group reorganised its editorial department as part of the media houses’ digital transformation plan and also unveiled a multi-million newsroom on Tuesday, March 2.  

    It adopted integrated workflows, scraped off and created new positions in the firm.
