The Kenya Kwanza Alliance under the leadership of President William Ruto used the Naivasha Parliamentary Group meeting to outline key legislative agenda crafted to help the government realise its manifesto.
President Ruto who spoke at the climax of the two-day retreat hoped that his allies understood the tasks awaiting them in parliament.
While reiterating that the Kenya Kwanza is the majority, Ruto urged the members to commit to implementing the agenda upon the resumption of both houses.
Affordable Health
The president underscored the need to lay down measures to ensure that the Universal Health Care plan is expedited. According to Ruto, his government will work toward reforming the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and consequently reach more Kenyans under the health cover.
His Excellency stated that over one million Kenyans run the of being plunged into destitute living conditions due to health constraints every year.
“We now appreciate why UHC can now become a reality in the shortest time possible and the necessary interventions we need to do when it comes to reforming the NHIF, making sure that it works for everybody and leaves no Kenyan behind,” Ruto stated.
“It is necessary for us to urgently reform the NHIF and roll out the UHC.”
Affordable Housing
Also standing out in the listed agendas is the affordable housing plan which the President holds close to his heart.
The Kenya Kwanza government, he said, will work towards helping the people of Kenya afford decent living conditions. The plan, Ruto stated, will also help to create job opportunities for the youths.
“We want to ensure that we create more homeowners than rent payers. We have desegregated the housing plan so that it begins to create industries,” Ruto stated.
Saving the Nation
In addition, the Kenya Kwanza administration will endeavour to instil a saving culture in the country. This, will according to Ruto, help to secure the nation’s future as well as avail the requisite resources to invest and transform the country.
Ruto charged the MPs with the role of amending the current regulations and laws regarding savings by public servants.
“We have to do the necessary reforms, change the law and amend the regulations so that we can save appropriately. It not only secures our future, but it also gets us resources to fund our development,” the president emphasised.
For agriculture, the Ruto-led administration promised to maximize the productivity of farm activities by adopting necessary interventions.
