  • The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Wednesday, February 8, airlifted three 2022 KCPE students to Moi Forces academy from Lamu for their form one admission.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, February 8, Security Commander under Operation Amani Boni, Colonel Joel Tanui, stated that the move was to ensure the safety of the students despite the persistent cases of insecurity in the area.

Tanui added that the three had posted very good results in their 2022 KCPE exams and it was important that they got to school on time for their admission.

The colonel also stated that the government would ensure that the well-being of the students was prioritised.

“We will be taking care of them and monitoring their progress in school. This is about impacting society first, to contribute to the overall peace of the country,” he stated.

Moreover, the Colonel revealed that the government had put in place plans to airlift students from conflict areas for subsequent years.

“We will do more of these, especially for those students who live in Boni Forest, to enable them to attend these schools.

“This is the first group but we will be doing the same for the students who will perform well in their national exams,” Tanui added.

The security commander further noted that the initiative would inspire other students to work hard in school and realise their dreams.

In a separate incident on January 30, KDF airlifted teachers who worked in schools based at Boni Forest after they failed to report to their respective stations when schools reopened for a fresh academic year.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) who airlifted the tutors stated that the move was to ensure the safety of the teachers despite the region experiencing perennial cases of insecurity.

Additionally, during the 2022 national examinations period, the government had to airlift candidates from the same area to safer schools.
