  • The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has today received over 18 bikes worth Ksh14.5 million from the Federal Republic of Germany on Tuesday, June 22.

The bikes were officially handed over by the German Ambassador to Kenya Annett Gunther at the DCI Headquarters in Kiambu through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Bundeskriminalamt (BKA)  programmes.

Germany’s donation included 1250CC BMW bikes while the rest were Kibo-150 bikes. The motorbikes will be issued by DCI  to specialized units of the agency.

The 18 bikes handed to DCI and the Anti-Terror Police Unit will help boost the war against terrorism as officers will have quick access to crime scenes and respond to crime and terror attacks.

Amb. Gunther also expressed Germany’s support of DCI with equipment and materials to fight cybercrime and improve its crime scene investigations.

She also stated that the collaboration was due to the growing cross-border crime. The partnership will also see the facilitation of the training of officers in intelligence.

DCI boss George Kinoti acknowledged the support from the German Embassy and the cooperation between investigative agencies in the two countries.  He stated that the donations would greatly improve the agency’s response to crime.

“We can now respond in the most efficient manner as per the global standards to any security incident within Nairobi,† Kinoti stated.

Kinoti added that the motorcycles will be deployed in the country’s terror hotspots in the Northern and coastal regions.

Early this year, it also donated forensic kits worth Sh27 million for the Forensic Laboratory based at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road.

In December 2019, the German Government donated crime scene kits, motorcycles, and several vehicles to the ATPU unit.
