The body of the late Ken Okoth will reportedly not be taken to his maternal home in Kabondo Kasipul in Homa Bay County, as had earlier been communicated.
This is due to fears that residents might forcefully bury the deceased against his wishes as K24 Digital reported.
“Should they be allowed to do that, they would have acted in breach of Ken Okoth’s will. Out of fear, we wish to say that Okoth will be cremated right here in Nairobi tomorrow (Saturday, August 3),” a close family member told the publication.
On Wednesday, Opposition leader Raila Odinga stated that Okoth’s body would be transported to Kabondo Kasipul Constituency in Homa Bay County for the final rites.
He had stated that a funeral mass would be held at Got Rateng’ Secondary School.
“Ken will be given to the family to do the rest…just like we did with Kenneth Matiba…so the family will do the rest,” Raila had indicated.
The decision not to transport the deceased’s body to his motherland comes after the court lifted an order blocking Okoth’s funeral.
“The cremation of the body will proceed as planned but after DNA samples are picked from the body of the late Hon. Ken Okoth at Lee Funeral Home,” Dunstan Omari, a lawyer representing Okoth’s secret lover Ann Thumbi remarked.
The family had earlier been directed not to bury him until the case was heard and determined.
