Three people were shot and injured on Thursday, January 16 by members of a gang operating in Murang’a County who continue to terrorise the local community using a gun that was allegedly stolen from a police officer on Wednesday, January 15.

According to an article by The Standard, the gang members are operating at night, robbing shopkeepers and other members of the community.

Murang’a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua reported that his officers have not been able to nab the notorious criminals but are in their pursuit.

“The victims were shot in the head, stomach and the leg,” remarked Kinyua.

In the first incident, the gang robbed a shopkeeper at Kahuro Shopping Centre of an unknown amount of money at around 8 p.m.

The two are said to have initially masqueraded as customers buying airtime before another accomplice pointed a gun at the shopkeeper, ordering him to surrender the money.

According to Mugoiri MCA Sospeter Nyoko, there is a need for security organs in the area to investigate and arrest the suspects.

“It is unfortunate that three people are nursing gun wounds following a raid at a business centre in my ward,” he regretted.

In the Wednesday January 15 incident, the notorious criminals beat up a traffic officer on patrol along the Murang’a – Sagana Highway, where they left him with severe injuries.

According to KNA, Constable Morris Mwiti was hit with a blunt object by the three assailants who emerged from a nearby thicket.

His partner, Caroline Njagi, ran for safety after witnessing the attack.

In what has been described as unknown revenge mission, the three men who were walking along the abandoned railway line hit him severally with a spade, injuring him on the forehead and jaw.

Confirming the incident, Murang’a Sub-county Police Commander Alexander Muasya stated that the officer lost consciousness after he was seriously injured on his head.

The attackers managed to steal his pistol which was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

“It’s true my officers were attacked along Murang’a – Sagana Road and police are on the move to narrow down to the three criminals and I urge the public to give out any helpful tip that can help us arrest them,” he told the media.
