Cabinet Issues New Directive on Hiring & Promoting Staff

  • President William Ruto’s cabinet on Tuesday, December 6, directed that employment within the public service should adhere to the gender parity rule.

    In a despatch sent to media houses, the cabinet explained that the move was in a bid to realise inclusive socio-economic development.

    The executive added that while Kenya made great strides in achieving gender equality and women empowerment and that it was far from reaching the desired international standards.

    “In that regard, the nation’s apex policy organ adopted a policy that seeks to foster the contribution of all Kenyans to national development by integrating Gender Equality as a key ethos of the Public Service.

    “Going forward, all recruitments and promotions within all the ranks of the public service shall uphold the Gender rule,” the statement read in part.

    In addition, the cabinet ordered all ministries and state agencies to ensure that all ministerial budgets are gender-responsive.

    Ruto’s trustees rolled out plans in line with the execution of the president’s promise to create employment opportunities by attracting investors.

    In line with this, the cabinet approved for the country to host three international conferences in the third quarter of the 2022/23 financial year.

    These include the 2023 Africa Youth Connect Conference, the Tripartite Free Trade Area Business Council Conference in February  2023 and the Africa Private Sector Alliance Conference in March 2023

    Ruto’s cabinet established that 4.35 million persons are still in need of humanitarian assistance and approved the upscaling of the drought responses.

    On a long term basis, the government set a target of increasing the national tree cover to 30 per cent by 2030. Consequently, 15 million trees will be planted before the lapse of the timeline.

    Effective immediately, a minimum of 200-500 trees will be planted in every event attended by the president, his deputy, CSs and principal secretaries.
