  • An autopsy on missing Ugandan doctor Gideon Wamasebu Simiyu conducted by Kakamega County pathologist Dickson Mchana revealed the cause of death.

The postmortem results, handed to the family on Tuesday, February 14, showed that Simiyu, 62 years old died of strangulation.

His family members, who had traveled from Uganda were able to identify his body after the autopsy conducted on Monday night, February, 13, at the Kakamega County and Referral Hospital Mortuary.

“His attackers appear to have drugged him before strangling him using a rope.

We collected samples for DNA analysis from the family members so as to conclusively confirm the identity of the deceased,” Mchana revealed.

The family began making preparations to have the body transported to Uganda.

Simiyu’s body was exhumed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on the banks of River Isiukhu at Machemo village in Kimangeti, Kakamega North Sub County, next to a sugarcane farm,  that had been set on fire.

The doctor,  who served as the district health officer in Manafwa district, Eastern Uganda,  went missing after he reportedly travelled to Webuye in Western Kenya in the company of a pastor. Details of his mission in Kenya remained scanty.

Detectives were still piecing details to solve the mystery surrounding the murder.

“He made a distress call to relatives, telling them that his life was in danger, and they should send him Ksh4 million.

That was the last communication the doctor had with his family, and we suspect he could have been kidnapped, murdered and buried secretly,” detectives reported.

The body had visible injuries on the neck and right hand. A suspect who allegedly sent extortion messages to the doctor’s family was arrested.

“The body has been taken to the Kakamega County mortuary in preparation for a post-mortem examination. Detectives have taken his fingerprints and other samples that will help identify the deceased,” Kakamega North Sub County Police Commander Paul Mwenda reported.
