  • Former Youth and Gender Affairs PS Lilian Omollo who is heavily implicated in the NYS scandal has revealed that the millions in her account were earned from selling cucumbers among other vegetables.

The amounts in question are three deposits she made to different accounts in the month of August 2017 – one of Ksh1 Million, and two separate of Sh2 Million.

Appearing after being summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in October, Omollo revealed her husband Dick Achieng Oneko as the source of the funds from an agri-business venture.

The former PS claimed that she had greenhouses in Siaya county where she farmed cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelons among other crops which made her lump sums in profits.

Together with her husband, Omollo claimed that she took up serious farming five years ago in Bondo.

She, however, did not provide any receipts to show the sales made from the farm.

The former PS explained that she deposited the money in Nairobi as opposed to in Siaya because she had a safe in the capital.

On his part, Oneko told detectives that proceeds from the farm sales were combined with those from a consultancy firm known as Nile International in South Sudan.

He too could offer any proof of payment from the venture stating that he was paid in cash.

Facing charges of the loss of Ksh468 Million in NYS, Omollo had seven bank accounts frozen in the ongoing investigations.

Three accounts belonging to her children; Sheela Mbogo, Stephanie Mbogo and Shalom Kamwetu were also frozen.
