DP Ruto Responds After MPs Walked Out of Meeting in Bomet

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday issued a clap-back at Members of Parliament (MPs) who staged a walkout in Bomet County earlier in the week.

The MPs were allegedly insulted after they were denied a chance to speak at the function that was attended by both DP Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The deputy president labelled the MPs as immature explaining that the chance to speak is not a right.

Addressing a gathering where MPs from Embu County were present, the DP sarcastically commended the MPs for their display of professionalism after they remained still during the public function.

“I want to thank the MPs here who accepted not to make statements and did not lead a walkout from the meetings like others elsewhere.

“It demonstrates the maturity of these leaders and the understanding that this is a university occasion and we can always discuss other matters on other occasions,” he stated.

MPs who were present during the Thursday event are Charles Njagagau (Mbeere North), Geoffrey King’ang’i (Mbeere South), Erick Muchangi (Runyenjes), Cecily Mbarire (Nominated) and Woman-Rep Jane Wanjuki.

DP Ruto presided over the launch of the University of Embu Endowment Fund and the opening of Prof George Magoha Library in Manyatta, Embu County.

He urged university managers to be keen on offering relevant courses instead of the number of students they admit to their institutions.

“Universities must focus less on numbers and more on the quality and relevance of courses they offer.

“They must create niche courses, focus on equipping students with knowledge, skills and competencies to produce employable graduates and be part of the solution to unemployment,” he urged.
