  • Multi-billion investors have initiated plans to construct Africa’s tallest building at Watamu beach in Malindi.

The 61-storey building will be 370 metres tall and overlooking the Malindi Marine National Park.

The design of the tower named Palm Exotjca is sourced from traditional art motifs.

The design of the Palm is based on traditional Kenyan art

Designed by Rome-based architect Lorenzo Pagnini, it will house luxury suites and a 24-hour casino.

It will also cater for “the discerning travellers who appreciate life’s finer things”, with a 270-bed hotel, shopping mall and nightclub.

There will also be 180 serviced apartments, offices, a conference centre and restaurants.

The developer of the tower is a consortium of investors from New York, South Africa and 89-year-old Italian billionaire Franco Rosso.

Rosso owns a chain of beach resorts in Malindi as well as hotels in Italy and Switzerland.

The tower will add to the coastal town’s clout as a luxury tourism hub and an attraction site.

The developers have, however, not announced the commencement date for the construction.

Currently the tallest building in Kenya is 195-metre-high Britam Towers in Nairobi while the 223-metre-tall Carlton Centre in South Africa.
