Three people were seriously injured after a lorry hit an improvised explosive device (IED) in Lamu County.
Confirming the incident, Linda Boni Operation director Joseph Kanyiri stated that the incident occurred near Sankuri on Kiunga-Hindi Road.
He told journalists that the lorry ran over the IED that had been planted by Al-Shabaab militants.
They were transporting goods from Kiunga to Hindi town when they encountered the explosive on the road.
Kanyiri further stated that the injured were receiving first-aid treatment at Kiunga dispensary.
The casualties will be flown to King Fahad County Hospital in Lamu town.
Earlier in August, several police officers were seriously injured after their vehicle ran over a homemade bomb between Handaro and Sangailu on the Lamu-Garissa border.
According to the police, the device is suspected to have been planted by Al-Shabaab militants.
Masalani, Sangailu, Ijara, and Handaro are all within the Linda Boni Operation zone.
The multi-agency operation seeks to flush out Al-Shabaab militants from Boni Forest which has for a long time been used as a hideout.
